New Kidd in town

Expect an announcement soon from 94 WYSP that San Antonio shock jock Kidd Chris will soon start hosting a 5-to-8 p.m. show.

We hear his arrival will move Couzin Ed, currently hosting 3 to 7 p.m., to a 2-to-5 p.m. slot, and Tommy Conwell will now be heard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A WYSP spokeswoman declined comment on Chris' arrival.

Chris is partial to prank phone calls and is heard often on Howard Stern's show.

WYSP hires edgy host

WYSP-FM (94.1) announced today that it would bring in Kidd Chris to host a new late-afternoon shift.

Chris, who cut his teeth making crank calls on the Howard Stern show and until recently hosted a free-wheeling show in San Antonio, Texas, will start on Aug. 29.

He will work from 5 to 8 p.m. as the rest of the lineup shifts to accommodate him. Tommy Conwell will work from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Couzin Ed will be on from 2 to 5 p.m. Matt & Huggy will be on from 8 to 11 p.m.

Stern is due to leave his morning show when his contract expires Dec. 31. Plans for his shift are not set; station insiders said it was unlikely that Chris will succeed Stern immediately

The KiddChris watch

KiddChris will start Aug. 29 in a new 5-to-8 p.m. shift on WYSP-FM (94.1), and the question just hangs there: Will WYSP move him to mornings to succeed the outgoing Howard Stern?

Chris, a Stern contributor born Chris Foley in Springfield, Mass., 31 years ago and raised near Syracuse, N.Y., won't say. Though unavailable for a phone interview Friday about his vision for his show, he e-mailed: "Kinda hard to describe what the show is about and make it sound interesting. Imagine what Letterman and [MTV's] Jackass would sound like smashed together. It's very listeners-driven 'cause I love to make the listeners the star."

If his style at his last stop (San Antonio, Texas) and previous jobs (in Wichita, Kan., and Sacramento, Calif.) is any sign, the show will be most politically incorrect. (One show regular was a guy in a wheelchair dubbed Brad the Cripple.) A spokeswoman for Infinity Broadcasting, which owns WYSP, said: "We have no announcements on who is going to replace Howard Stern in Philadelphia."

KiddChris, who starts Monday on WYSP-FM (94.1), posted his cell number - 215-965-7618 - on his Web site, www.KiddShow.Com. It's for real. Asked why, he replied: "I want to hear from as many people as I can before I start." He says the number flips to his home line in San Antonio, Texas, when he's occupied. Chris found a place in the burbs and awaits a moving van.
